Unique Lodging Experiences in Ohio

Whether you’re looking to book an overnight’s stay for Valentine’s Day or just want a getaway, Ohio has you covered for exceptional, unique lodging experiences. I have personally stayed at each of these destinations and they are all as cozy, clean and comfortable as can be.

There is something about staying outside your home that helps to rejuvenate a person. This resonates with both adults and kids alike. The distance traveled doesn’t have as much impact as the actual experience. Having an overnight getaway gives you an excellent opportunity for a little pampering, exercise and solitude. It also allows you to disconnect from all the responsibilities at home, aiding in your ability to think creatively for a project you may be working on.

Hillside Retreats Offers Two Unique Lodging Experiences

There is something special about a circular shape. It’s been studied and scrutinized for years. A round space is cozy. Add the canvas material that creates the yurt and you have yourself a tranquil, Zen-like setting.

At Hillside Retreats, in Logan, Ohio, you have the option to stay in one of two yurts or in a shipping container. All include excellent ameneties and everything you will need for a night or two of peaceful, country living. Each unit has a deck that houses a hot tub, robes provided. In the yard, you have your own firepit. The units come with a fully equipped kitchen.

An added bonus to the premises is the game room. Darts, pool, shuffleboard and many other yard games are available for your use during your stay.

Silo Lodging

Sleeping in a silo and waking up in that blissful circular room is similar to the yurt experience. The building itself is a newly constructed pole barn made to feel like you are sleeping in different sections. The wooded setting, with a pond in the back, creates a very cozy, relaxing atmosphere. There is only one silo room which has a bedroom in the upper and lower portions. The upper portion is the most authentic as you have not just the round walls but the domed ceiling as well.

Kindelberger Log Cabin

Staying at the Kindelberger Cabin is a unique lodging experience and an amazing history lesson in one. A modern day cabin and a century old stone barn just over the ridge make up a portion of the family’s property. One is just as pleasing as the other. The cabin sits on the ridge from where the stones were quarried. Hiking trails go through the woods, a beautiful patio is there to enjoy and an exceptional family museum is located right next to the cabin. The family couldn’t be any sweeter. They are happy to give you a tour and explain how in the world a three story stone barn could have been built back in the 1800s. They still have their ancestors’ tools to show you!

Stockport Mill Inn

If you love the sound of the ocean, the Stockport Mill Inn will be your Midwest paradise. The historic mill is set right on the dam still using hydroelectric power for the inn’s electrical needs. Morning, noon and night the Muskingum River rushes past creating a beautiful ambiance. Each room has a walk-out balcony for you to have a bird’s eye view of the dam.

This unique lodging experience gives you the opportunity to tour through the mill and see the working contraptions in the basement all the way up to the fourth floor. Rooms come with a whirlpool tub or a hot tub. The first floor offers a handicap accessible room, whereas the other rooms are accessed via the stairs.

A massage room is available for personal pampering. You will need to preschedule your massage prior to your visit. The mill also offers a library with not only books but board games and movies as well.

Burr Oak Lodge & Conference Center

Ohio has some of the best lodging options. You don’t have to have a tent nor a camper to enjoy everything the parks have to offer. Burr Oak is truly a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Have you ever had the dilemma of not knowing where to sit and relax? Crazy, right?! Some of the choices include: by the huge fireplace, in a rocking chair looking out over the lake, snuggled up in a cushiony chair, up in the loft overlooking the entire lodge, or outside on the deck. Geez!

If you’re looking for more active options, hiking trails, frisbee golf, a putt-putt course and even an indoor pool are included in your stay. A restaurant is located on the bottom floor serving a full menu.

Many passions fill my life but my family, friends and travel top the list by far. Combining them, or at least two of the three, makes it even better! I love being home and working in my garden but the urge to see and experience something new is always bubbling to the top. I love the researching part of planning a trip almost as much as the actual experience. I also like the challenge of seeing what kind of deals I can get so money is left over for even more trips!
